Membership is what keeps a rabbi, a cantor and a religious school in Hong Kong. It is also how you stop being a visitor.
You do not need to be a member to come to a service, study Torah, or bring your children to a festival. You do need to be a member to enrol a child in Shorashim, to have the clergy officiate a life-cycle event, and to vote at the annual general meeting.
Who joins
Families with children in the religious school. Couples and individuals who want a Jewish community in this city. People here for a few years who would rather spend them belonging to something. Interfaith families. Jews who have not belonged to a synagogue since they left home.
What it costs
Dues are set annually by the Executive Committee, with categories for families, couples, individuals, young professionals and students. Nobody is turned away for inability to pay — the conversation is confidential and the answer is always yes.
How to join
Email the office and we will send you the current dues schedule and an application. If you would rather come to a service first and decide afterwards, that is the more common order.
Membership runs with the Jewish year, so joining mid-year is prorated.
